Avventurina – Invented by Murano glassmakers during the first half of the XVIIth century and the process was kept a closely guarded secret for centuries. It was given this name because its manufacturing process was tricky and of uncertain success and was called an “adventure.” The preparation of “Avventurina” is long and delicate, resulting in the formation of small, sparkling copper crystals. The glass is removed from the furnace in blocks after having been slowly cooled. Once cold, it is cut like a hard stone and often made into fine crystals to be worked into man of the famous Muranese glassworks.
